Reported effectiveness
The average perceived effectiveness of the treatment amongst the patient views found for this page.

To calculate the reported effectiveness for a patient view, the model first analyses whether it can be ascertained that the person writing the review has had direct experience of the treatment for themselves or a loved one. If so, it then uses sentiment analysis to rate their view from 1-5 on how effective this treatment was for them, with 1 being the least effective, and 5 the most effective.

Hi! I just finished a speech therapy course, and I believe it has helped! Now, I try to sing out loud whenever I’m alone, like in the car or shower. In fact, I’m even having an easier time swallowing my pills. I guess it’s just another muscle that needs to be exercised!

I was going to mention swallowing and speech, my friend … but I started speech therapy a couple of weeks ago, and I’m optimistic that will help on both fronts. I don’t have slurring — but I do get hoarse and have soft speech. Are you able to go to speech therapy or is that too far to travel for you?

Those are very good points and are well worth keeping in mind. The results confirmed my worst suspicions that my cognitive changes were significant so it was easy to latch on to this one assessment.

I start 12 weeks of sessions with my speech therapist next week so hopefully that will be a chance to learn skills and approaches to deal with all of this.

Helped me. Similar to a friend's mother. You must be disciplined and work with a speech therapist.

It 100% helped my mother! You might not be able to see any improvement (neither did my mother), but it was a godsend to those of us who care for her. We could definitely see major improvement.

You have to do the homework EVERY DAY. I forced my mother! She can’t tell a difference even now, and thinks it’s silly to continue speech therapy, but omg, it’s so much better! We stayed with the same therapist who did SPEAK OUT, and she also had my mother do “tongue-o-meter” exercises. Those have helped her swallowing function improve so much.

My father’s speech has gotten slower and more strained. He still does a beautiful job of communicating when he wants to, but I worry that he doesn’t always participate in conversations because it’s getting harder for him to talk. He hasn’t tried speech therapy, and I’m not sure how to convince him to try. Have you explored speech therapy? If so, have you seen positive results?
