Basics: What you need to know

Amethyst Biomat Therapy is a device-based alternative treatment often utilized by individuals seeking complementary or integrative approaches for lingering symptoms. The mat itself is infused with amethyst crystal layers and is designed to emit far infrared heat and negative ions, with the goal of improving circulation, reducing inflammation, and promoting relaxation. Practitioners may advocate its use for issues such as fatigue, body aches, and stress management, though formal clinical evidence specifically for Long Covid may be limited at this time.

History and development

  • Origins in Japan: Early iterations of infrared-based mats emerged in the late 20th century, often linked to Japanese research on far infrared technology. These innovations paved the way for specialized mats infused with crystals.
  • Integration of amethyst: Amethyst crystals were incorporated due to their conductive and purported energetic properties, believed by some to enhance the infrared and negative ion output.
  • Commercial expansion: As complementary therapies gained popularity, various manufacturers started marketing these biomats worldwide, emphasizing claimed benefits for chronic pain and post-viral conditions.
  • Refinements over time: Newer models include adjustable heat settings, improved digital controls, and updated certifications, reflecting ongoing product evolution.

What is known

  • Infrared heat benefits: Infrared heat can penetrate deeper into tissues than conventional heat sources, theoretically improving circulation and providing temporary pain relief.
  • Negative ions: Negative ions have been linked—mostly anecdotally—to mood improvement and relief from stress, though rigorous research is limited.
  • Potential for symptom relief: Users often report improved sleep quality, decreased muscle tension, and reduced feelings of fatigue. While these effects may benefit some individuals, the exact mechanisms remain under study.
  • Limited direct research: Scientific data specifically supporting this therapy’s impact on Long Covid symptoms is minimal. Preliminary anecdotal evidence highlights subjective improvements, but large-scale trials are lacking.

What is not known

  • Exact mechanism of amethyst: Despite claims about amethyst’s energetic properties, how the crystals influence bodily processes is not established in mainstream science.
  • Long-term safety profile: Data on long-term, repeated use—especially for individuals with complex, chronic conditions—remains scarce.
  • Interaction with other treatments: Whether this therapy works synergistically with other medical or rehabilitative interventions is unclear, as structured studies are lacking.
  • Consistency of results: Because anecdotal reports vary widely, and standardized protocols differ among practitioners, the therapy’s reproducibility is still an open question.
  • Infrared penetration: The mat emits far infrared waves that can deeply warm muscles.
  • Negative ion release: The device generates negatively charged ions, often associated with stress reduction.
  • Amethyst conductivity: The embedded crystals help concentrate and distribute infrared heat.
  • Intended relaxation effects: Practitioners use soothing warmth to promote calm and reduce tension.
  • Excessive heat: Overuse or high temperatures may cause dehydration or discomfort.
  • Skin sensitivity: Warmth can irritate sensitive skin or exacerbate some rashes.
  • Possible overstimulation: Some individuals report feeling anxious or jittery if the heat or negative ion output is too high.
  • Allergic reactions: Rare reports exist of reaction to synthetic materials within the mat’s construction.
  • Skepticism on research: Critics note limited peer-reviewed evidence and question its scientific backing.
  • Energetic claims debated: Some practitioners emphasize metaphysical elements of amethyst, while others see it strictly as a heat conductor.
  • Cost and accessibility: High costs can hinder widespread use, sparking debates on cost-effectiveness versus benefit.
  • Individual variation: Results differ widely among people, leading to uncertainty among medical professionals.

I am a person who is highly sensitive to Western medicine so I have to use alternative holistic ways for cellular malfunction. I'm doing amethyst biomat with infrared treatments, X 39 stem cells patches, nerve oil treatment, sound therapy, and being around nature and growing my own food. My body loves these treatments so far, it comforts me while I go through moment by moment.

Patient view

Ran out of space but this has helped with:

• Shallow breathing and choppy • Stamina / crashes • Cold limbs
• Food intolerance? • Facial numbness with flares • Heart palpitations • Right eye pain • Anxiety / elevated mood Brain fog /freezes

I feel like I can breathe again! It’s almost like clearing a clogged drain and feel like my brain and body are getting the oxygen and nutrients it needs. I’m having normal days, laughing, and just feeling like my old self. I went driving through the desert for 6 hours exploring without any crashes while being very social. I’d like to thank the community for posting this as solutions as I would have never found it. Beyond giving me hope, it’s giving me confidence. Now I’m testing to see where my new boundaries are. I still have some minor things I’m dealing with but hoping those fade. I need to test a workout to see if PEM persists. I also still have right eye pain, blurry vision, and facial flares but it’s been reduced since adding this to my regimen.

Good luck and hope this helps 🙏🏽🩷
